The Cla-Val Model 61-47 Deep Well Pump Control Valve is designed to protect pipelines from surges caused by the starting and stopping of deep well pumps. The operation of the valve is completely automatic and controlled by the solenoid valve. With the pump off, the valve is wide open. When the pump is started, the solenoid is energized and the valve begins to close slowly, discharging air and the initial rush of sand and water from the pump column to the atmosphere. As the valve closes the pump output is gradually diverted into the main line, preventing the development of a starting surge.

Cla-Val 61-47 – Deep Well Pump Control Valve
The Cla-Val 61-47 is a diaphragm-actuated, hydraulically operated control valve designed for deep well pump discharge applications. It is equipped with a CSM11-HC high-capacity solenoid pilot. The valve enables controlled pump start/stop sequences and facilitates venting of air, sand, and initial flow from the pump column to atmosphere.
Operating Sequence
With the pump offline, the valve remains fully open. Upon pump start, the solenoid is energized, causing the valve to close gradually. This progressive closure transfers flow to the main line without subjecting the network to hydraulic shock. During shutdown, the solenoid de-energizes, and the valve opens in a controlled manner to drain. Pump pressure decreases, and the main check valve closes without slam. The X105LOW limit switch disables the starter when the valve is fully open.

Sizing Criteria
Valve sizing is based on the requirement to vent full pump flow at a pressure at least 10 psi below static network pressure. Selection is determined using pump curve and valve Cv.
Installation Guidelines
Pilot piping minimum 1/2". Discharge must be free-draining with air gap. For power failure or surge protection, use 52-02 or 652-03 surge anticipator valves.
Applications & Media
Typical applications include deep well pump discharge, air/sand venting, and controlled line pressurization. Suitable for potable and raw water. Not recommended for fluids with high solids content without pre-filtration.
