Flow Regulating Manual Valves
Manual flow control valves are used in industrial hydraulic and thermal circuits where flow must be adjusted locally by an operator, without an actuator or automation signal. This category includes ARI ASTRA and ARI ASTRA PLUS for manual throttling duty, as well as ARI EURO-WEDI, which functions as a shut-off/throttling valve with EPDM soft seat sealing for heating water, chilled water, and other neutral fluids compatible with EPDM.
Selection should be based on nominal size, available Kvs, required pressure drop, fluid type, operating temperature, stem sealing requirement, and end connection type. Available configurations include flanged and BSP connections, DIN standardization, face-to-face lengths FTF-1 or FTF-14, body materials EN-JL1040 / EN-GJL-250 and EN-JS1049 / EN-GJS-400-18U-LT, and pressure ratings PN16 and, depending on series, PN25.
ARI ASTRA valves are intended for manual flow regulation in liquid, gas, and steam service, with straight-through flow path, flanged ends, metallic or soft seat options, stroke limiter, and optional position indication. ASTRA PLUS differs primarily by versions equipped with bellows sealing, used where reduced external stem leakage is required or where tighter control of packing maintenance is necessary. Available Kvs values range from 4.5 m³/h to 3185 m³/h, depending on DN and valve version.
In HVAC systems, water treatment plants, chemical process service, and power generation duty, the valve should be selected to avoid operation in an unstable opening range, excessive noise, cavitation, or seat erosion. For EURO-WEDI, EPDM compatibility must be verified; it is not intended for steam or mineral oils and is suitable for operating temperatures from -10°C to +120°C, with short-term exposure up to +130°C.
