KITO G 23.3 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-X25 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and process components against stable detonation in pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors. Certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4, it is suitable for installations where ignition may originate from either side of the line.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 3.0 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 250 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical pipelines
  • Function: bidirectional detonation protection; not suitable for reverse flow operation.

Thermal Monitoring

The -T version includes one PT100 sensor; the -TT version includes two sensors. For single-sensor units, installation should be on the side where fire risk is highest. Dual PT100 units monitor both sides for short-duration burning.

Dimensions and Connections

G 23.3 N corresponds to NG 300 and is available with DN 100, DN 125, or DN 150 connections, all PN 16. ASME options: 4", 5", 6" Class 150 RF. Standard flange: EN 1092-1 type B1.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619
  • Optional body: cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: graphite
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell and mesh: stainless 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Application Selection

G 23.3 N differs from G 23.2 N mainly by its larger NG 300 size and temperature rating up to 250 °C, with pressure up to 3.0 bar abs.. Selection should consider MESG, pressure, temperature, DN, pressure drop, gas density, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are provided for air (ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K); correction is required for other gases.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-X25

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-X25-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 3.0 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 250 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
