KITO H 42.0 N In-line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 42.0 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor with flanged connections, designed for the protection of vessels, equipment, and pipeline sections handling flammable gases or liquid vapors. Reference types: KITO RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2 and RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Max ignition source distance: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical, any orientation
  • Stabilized burning: BT ≤ 6.0 min

Applications

Used in flanged vapor recovery lines, tank vents, process off-gas, small skids, and piping where ignition may occur from either direction. The H 42.0 N is selected for mixtures up to IIB3, where MESG is lower than IIA applications and stricter flame quenching is required.

Difference from H 42 N

H 42.0 N shares the same functional logic as H 42 N for group IIB3, 1.2 bar abs. pressure, and BT ≤ 6 min, but is the flanged version. It is specified where piping standards require EN or ASME flanges instead of threaded connections.

Connections and Materials

Available in DN 15 to DN 50, with EN 1092-1 type B1 flanges. ASME Class 150 RF available. EN classes: PN 40 up to DN 40, PN 16 for DN 50.

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing / grid: 1.4301 / 1.4310 or 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2 or A4
  • Sensor: PT100, 1/4" connection, material 1.4571

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2

KITO® RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2-T (-TT)

– design with flange connection –

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • All sizes are tested against “stabilized burning” and withstand this up to a max. burn time BT ≤ 6.0 min.
  • To detect a “stabilized burning” a thermocouple must be installed at each endangered side.
  • Mounting is acceptable in any position, in horizontal as well as in vertical pipes.
