KITO H 39.3 N In-line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 39.3 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor, short-time burning proof, designed for installation in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors. Reference type: KITO EFA-Def0-IIC-…/…-1.2. Versions -T / -TT are equipped with PT100 temperature sensors.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIC
  • MESG: < 0.5 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Max. distance from ignition source: 30 × pipe ID
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100, atmospheric conditions

Industrial Applications

H 39.3 N is used in vapor recovery lines, tank venting, chemical process venting, and piping where protection is required for mixtures up to IIC. Compared to IIB3 variants, selection is based on lower MESG and stricter ignition source distance (30D vs 50D).

Sizes and Connections

Range covers NG 100 to NG 500, with connections DN 40 to DN 250. Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1: PN 40, PN 16, PN 10 depending on diameter. Optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF from 1½" to 10".

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO grid: 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Selection and Maintenance

Selection must confirm explosion group, DN, pressure, temperature, L/D, flow rate, and allowable pressure drop. Flow curves are provided for air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K and atmospheric pressure.

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIC-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIC-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIC with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) < 0.5 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 30 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the Deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
