KITO H 37 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 37 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for installation in piping connected to vessels, process equipment, or network sections handling flammable gases and liquid vapors. Reference types: KITO EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X16 and EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X16-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIA, MESG > 0.9 mm
  • Max operating pressure: 1.1 bar abs.
  • Max operating temperature: 160 °C
  • Max ignition source distance: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100, under atmospheric conditions

Applications

H 37 N is used in vapor recovery, tank venting, vent lines, and process networks requiring bidirectional protection for IIA group and temperatures up to 160 °C. Compared to H 36 N, selection is based on higher temperature tolerance and lower allowable operating pressure.

Dimensions and Connections

Range covers NG 65 to NG 600, with flanged connections DN 25 to DN 300. EN flanges include PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10, depending on diameter. ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF connection available on request.

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: stainless 1.4571 or 1.4581
  • KITO grid: stainless 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

FAQ

When is PT100 required?
Required when safety scenarios demand thermal load detection and interlock for flow shutdown or inerting. With one sensor, install on the side where combustion is expected.

Applicable standard?
Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X16

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X16-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.1 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 160 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
