KITO H 40.2 N In-line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 40.2 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor with flanged connections, designed to prevent flame transmission in piping and vessel sections handling flammable gases and vapors. Reference types: KITO RG-Def-I-…-1.3 and RG-Def-I-…-1.3-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Operating pressure: up to 1.3 bar abs.
  • Operating temperature: up to 60 °C
  • Max ignition source distance: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: any orientation, horizontal or vertical piping
  • Stabilized burning: endurance burn tested, unlimited duration

Applications

Applied in flanged vent lines, vapor recovery, small vessel connections, skid-mounted units, and process piping where ignition risk exists on both sides. Endurance burning certification is critical where HAZOP/ATEX studies do not exclude stabilized burning at the device.

Dimensions and Connections

Range covers DN 15 to DN 50, with EN 1092-1 type B1 flanges. PN 40 up to DN 40, PN 16 for DN 50. Optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF connection available.

Materials and Monitoring

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing / grid: 1.4301 / 1.4310 or 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2 or A4
  • Sensor: PT100, 1/4" connection, material 1.4571

Selection Criteria

Selection must consider explosion group, L/D ratio, flow rate, pressure drop, condensation, potential element fouling, and thermal interlock requirements. Flow curves are provided for air at ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K, atmospheric pressure.

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® RG-Def-I-…-1.3

KITO® RG-Def-I-…-1.3-T (-TT)

-design with flange connection –

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.3 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • All sizes are tested against “stabilized burning” and withstand this for indefinite time (endurance burn).
  • To detect a “stabilized burning” a thermocouple can be in-stalled at each endangered side.
  • Mounting is acceptable in any position, in horizontal as well as in vertical pipes.
