Actuated On-Off Valves
Automatic industrial On/Off valves are used for full shut-off or full flow in water, steam, air, inert gases, and other compatible process media. This category includes ARI 405/460, AWS 700, 701, 730, 731, and Genebre 5060, 5060N, 5062, 5062N, with flanged, BSP, NPT, and ISO 228-1 connections, in both straight-through and angle-pattern configurations.
Valve selection is based on nominal pressure class PN 16 to PN 40, body material, seat design, end connection, service medium, and required fail position. Available body materials include EN-JL 1040, EN-JS 1049, 1.0619+N, 1.4408, AISI 316, and CF8/AISI 304. Seat materials include PTFE or EPDM, selected according to fluid compatibility, operating temperature, and shut-off tightness requirements.
ARI 405/460 valves cover applications with pneumatic or electric actuators, metal or soft seat construction, leakage class A to DIN EN 12266, optional bellows sealing, and temperature limits up to 450°C depending on body material and packing arrangement. Genebre 5060/5060N are angle-seat valves with spring return, PN 16 rating, AISI 316 stainless steel body, NBR actuator sealing, and operating range from -10°C to +180°C. Genebre 5062/5062N are straight-through valves in AISI 304/CF8 with EPDM seals, NAMUR pneumatic interface, and single-acting spring-return actuator configuration.
In PLC or DCS-based automation, these valves are typically used as final shut-off elements for start-up sequences, equipment isolation, bypass duty, line filling and draining, and process protection functions. Key evaluation parameters include switching time, cycle frequency, instrument air pressure, seal compatibility, manual override provision, and fail-safe response during loss of power or pneumatic supply. Maintenance review should also consider seat wear, stem sealing arrangement, internal leakage class, and service accessibility for actuator or seal replacement.
