Valpes – Technical profile of an electric valve actuator manufacturer
Valpes is a French manufacturer of electric actuators for valve automation. Its actuators are used mainly on quarter-turn valves such as ball valves, butterfly valves and plug valves, as well as on multi-turn applications through dedicated actuator series.
The range represented through Philippopoulos S.A. includes:
- ER PLUS,
- ER PREMIER,
- VR,
- VS,
- VRX,
- VSX,
- VTX,
- VT,
- VT PLUS,
- LT,
- MT,
- DV / DVX.
Valpes actuators should be specified as part of the complete valve automation package. The actuator, valve torque, power supply, control signal, feedback, fail-safe requirement, installation environment and certification must be evaluated together.
Quarter-turn actuators are used for 90° valve operation. Some series also support 180° or 270° operation for special valves or three-way configurations. Typical control modes include On/Off, 3-point control, proportional control with 0–10 V or 4–20 mA, Modbus-RTU communication and battery backup positioning.
The ER PLUS and ER PREMIER series are compact electric actuators for smaller and medium-size valves. They are suitable for HVAC, water systems, industrial utilities and general On/Off automation.
The VR and VS series provide higher enclosure protection and broader automation options. They are suitable for outdoor installations, industrial environments and valve packages requiring position feedback or modulating control.
The VRX, VSX and VTX series are ATEX versions for hazardous areas. Selection requires verification of zone classification, gas group, dust group, temperature class, ambient temperature, cable glands and electrical installation concept.
The LT series is designed for low-temperature environments. It is relevant for outdoor installations in cold climates and applications where standard actuator temperature limits are not sufficient.
The DV / DVX series addresses marine and DNV-related applications, with DVX also covering ATEX requirements.
The VT / VT PLUS series covers higher torque valves, while MT is used for multi-turn applications. Selection must include torque, number of turns, travel time, duty cycle, IP rating, manual override, ISO 5211 interface, feedback and wiring diagram.
For automation engineers and valve application engineers, Valpes actuators should be selected from the real valve duty: torque, operating angle, control mode, ambient conditions, certification and fail position.
