Berluto – Technical profile of a pressure reducing and water control valve manufacturer

Berluto is a German manufacturer of pressure reducing valves, pressure control valves and water-related control equipment. Its products are used in potable water, industrial water, fire protection, HVAC and utility networks where pressure must be reduced, stabilised or protected.

The main product areas include:

  • direct acting pressure reducing valves,
  • pilot-operated pressure reducing valves,
  • pressure relief valves,
  • pressure sustaining valves,
  • water control valves,
  • strainers and accessories.

Pressure reducing valves control downstream pressure. They are used where supply pressure is higher than the pressure required by the consumer or downstream network. Selection requires inlet pressure, outlet pressure, flow range, minimum flow, maximum flow, pressure drop and acceptable noise level.

Pilot-operated pressure reducing valves are used in larger networks or where flow varies significantly. They can provide more stable control over a wider operating range, but require correct pilot line installation, strainers and maintenance access.

Pressure sustaining valves maintain upstream pressure and open when upstream pressure exceeds the set value. Relief valves protect piping or equipment from excessive pressure, but they must not be confused with certified safety valves unless the product documentation supports that function.

For water systems, additional selection parameters include cavitation risk, water hammer, minimum velocity, filter requirement, installation orientation and pressure gauge arrangement.
